So you have a brand new cloud location and you need to start setting things up. The first thing you are going to need is a network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of the network types in vCloud director, it is the routed network that is used the most. It is simply a network that is connected to an Edge gateway. Typically the Edge is connected to the internet and to one or more routed networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before creating a routed network you will need an Edge gateway, otherwise you will be creating an isolated network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking at the Edge, There is only an external NIC<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Select Networks from the Networking menu.
Click the NEW link above the empty network list. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The New Network wizard will pop up.
Select routed as the network type and click NEXT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Name the network (also giving it a description if need be) and the CIDR of the internal NIC of the Edge gateway. This will be the gateway of the network.
Here my default gateway on this 24 bit network is 192.168.1.1 but it could have been any IP on that segment e.g. 192.168.5.254.
Leave Shared un-selected and click NEXT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next we connect the network to an Edge gateway.
Leave the type as internal and click NEXT<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now we define a Static IP pool if you want one.
You can define many pools as long as they fit in the network range. Click NEXT when finished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here you can set DNS IPs for VMs deployed on the network. Add IPs if you need them and click NEXT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now review the settings and click FINISH to create the network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The network list now shows our new internal routed network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking at the Edge it now shows an internal VDC network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
